First month a whirlwind as head of Chamber

By Jackie Lovejoy
Dearborn Area Chamber of Commerce

I’ve begun my second month and I’m delighted to fill you in on my recent activities. I’ve had the thrill of meeting many of you, including some of our elected officials. I’ve already
logged numerous ribbon cuttings, networking lunches and After Hours events.

The Taste of Dearborn event June 19 was a huge success this year. We had 24 restaurants and 870 attendees in the streets of Dearborn, sampling our culture and cuisine. Thanks to all who participated and be sure to bring your friends next year.

I made my debut with Dearborn Heights Mayor Dan Paletko on his cable TV talk show, which will be airing this month. Perhaps you heard my interview on WHFR-FM 89.3, Henry Ford Community College’s radio station with Jay Korinek.

Dearborn Mayor John O’Reilly Jr. was kind enough to join me for lunch and U.S. Rep. John Dingell and state Rep. George Darany stopped in and made sure I was welcomed officially. The Small Business Association and U.S. Rep. John Conyers held a small business forum at our offices in honor of National Small Business week.

To say my first month was a whirlwind would be very true. Thanks to each of you who have helped me hit the ground running.

We are launching an exciting new event this month called Cash Mob. Watch our Facebook page for the business of the month. On the 20th each month we will surprise a local business with a cash mob of customers, seeking to spend $20 at their establishment.

This is a great idea gaining momentum around the country and will hopefully infuse business into our local retailers. Look for surprise announcements a day or two in advance on our Facebook page.
As we move through the remainder of our summer, look for us all at our events and say hello. Be sure to check out for new updates. Our staff is the best in the business and is adding new events for the community and our members to enjoy and boost our local economy.

Have a safe and enjoyable month.
