Senior golfers head for Warren Valley course

Bill Wopinsky, 76, of Dearborn Heights, still plays golf on a regular basis at Warren Valley Golf Course.

Dearborn Heights is home to the Warren Valley Golf Course, a large complex that is part of the Wayne County Parks system. The golfing mecca is located at 26116 Warren Road, west of Beech Daly.

Senior golfers dot the 36-hole golf course on most weekdays. Seniors get out there early in the morning and start moving that little white ball all around the course.

Bill Wopinky, a 76-year-old duffer from Dearborn Heights, has been golfing with his buddies for a number of years.

“We like it here and it is a close by quality course to boot,” he said.

Also, more than a dozen senior citizens from Canada play the course on a weekly basis. Larry Lemiski of Ontario points out that “Americans treat us very well and that’s a good thing.”

I traveled to the sprawling facility prior to the July 4th holiday, finding plenty of activity on the East and West courses.

Joshua Krzeminski is a pro shop employee and keeps busy with his job. He has worked there since he was 16 years old and is a 2009 graduate of Dearborn Heights Crestwood High School.

“Warren Valley is part of a great atmosphere, and I enjoy being involved in it,” Krzeminski said.

Shooting par on most of the holes is par-3, and the others are a mix of par-4’s and par-5’s.
