Senior summer day trips scheduled

HEIGHTS — The city Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring day trips for residents 55 and over and for non-resident Senior Citizen Club Members. The trips are scheduled to take place July through September.

Transportation to and from all events is provided by deluxe motor coach and will depart from the Berwyn Senior Center, 26155 Richardson, and Eton Senior Center, 4900 Pardee. Registration for all events is on a first come, first served basis.

• July 31 — “Senior Day” at Comerica Park: The Detroit Tigers host the Washington Nationals. Senior Day tickets will include a hot dog and a small soft drink. Depart from Berwyn Center at 11 a.m. and Eton Center at 11:15 a.m.; approximate return time is 4 p.m.

Cost: $36 Dearborn Heights residents, $41 non-resident club members.

Registraion: Through July 22.

• Aug. 16 – American Quilter’s Society Quilt Show: The quilt show will take place at the DeVos Place Convention Center in Grand Rapids. The quilt show will showcase quilt making, design, self-expression and quilt collecting. In addition, there will also be contests and workshops. Depart from Eton Center at 7:45 a.m. and Berwyn Center at 8 a.m.; approximate return time is 7 p.m.

Cost: $29 Dearborn Heights residents, $34 non-resident club members.

Registration: July 9 to Aug. 1.

• Aug. 27 – Our Lady of Consolation Shrine: Travel to Carey, Ohio, for a tour of Our Lady of Consolation Shrine. The trip will include confession and mass in the basilica and a trip to Shrine Park for pilgrimage devotions and healing ceremony. Depart from Berwyn Center at 7:30 a.m. and Eton Center at 7:45 a.m.; approximate return time is 6 p.m.

Cost: $12 for Dearborn Heights residents, $17 non-resident club members.

Registration: Through Aug. 19.

• Sep. 21 – Michigan Antique & Collectibles Festival: Travel to Midland for Michigan’s largest antique and collectible festival. The festival offers more than 1,000 dealers of antiques and collectibles and a classic car and parts swap meet. Depart from Eton Center at 8 a.m. and Berwyn Center at 8:15 a.m.; approximate return time is 7:30 p.m.

Cost: $23 Dearborn Heights residents, $28 non-resident club members.

Registration: July 8 to Sept. 11.
