Dearborn Area Chamber of Commerce

Thank you all for the warm welcome at the Business Builder Breakfast on May 20. I’ve been on board officially since June 3, and this past month has been nothing short of wonderful. My father’s family is from Dearborn originally, and after helping out at Davenport University’s Dearborn location for more than 10 years each August, this has been a great homecoming for me.

We have many exciting milestones to celebrate at the Chamber. July 1 marks the one-year anniversary of the merging of our two chambers into our current organization, and it’s proved a great collaboration. Next year marks our 70-year anniversary serving the Dearborn communities as a business partner, and in 2015 we are thrilled to host the state-wide chamber convention. Our staff works tirelessly serving the needs and expectations of all our business stakeholders. The great ideas are always flowing and I’m looking forward to hearing yours as we move forward. Most recently, our Taste of Dearborn event June 19 was a huge success. We had 24 restaurants and 870 participants in the streets of Dearborn, sampling our culture and cuisine. Thanks to all who participated, be sure to bring your friends next year.

In the next 60 days I’m going to be out and about, scheduling meetings and popping in to say hello to introduce myself. I’ve worked extensively in the past with the Small Business Association, the Center for Empowerment and Economic Development, the National Organization of Women Business Owners, the Detroit Regional Chamber, the Macomb County Chamber and the Romeo-Washington Chamber; I know it takes many hands to make light work for us all. If you are in the area, please stop in and say hello. Our Friday Farmers & Artisans Market may be the perfect day to do that and pick up some produce, and Michigan-made products for your weekends.

You can look forward to a member survey coming soon, to gain your insights and wish list items. My background in job development led me to the idea of a member-to-member job board for our current members to utilize as they fill key positions in our community. I also see a student chapter in our future, with panel discussions for that audience to understand the value of chamber membership in action. I can see our student ambassadors helping us fill our pipeline of entrepreneurs and executives moving forward in this 21 century.

I’d like to thank my board of directors, our wonderful staff, and you, the members, for your gracious welcome. I’m excited to get started and move forward with you.
