DPS 2013-14 calendar available online

DEARBORN — The Dearborn Public Schools 2013-14 district calendar is available online, and features vacation days and state and national testing dates.

The calendar can be accessed by going to http://dearbornschools.org/district/about-us/district-calendar. Visitors to the website can view the calendar or download a PDF version.

Parents should check with their their children’s schools for events and activities unique to their school and not appearing on the district calendar.

The calendar includes nine late start dates (four less than this year) that will be used for professional development and school improvement. Feedback from staff has determined that the late start dates have been extremely helpful in providing teachers and principals time to meet, collaborate with colleagues,
work on school improvement goals, and improve student instruction,
DPS Communications Coordinator David Mustonen said.

The first late start dates will be Sept. 11, and will continue on various Wednesdays throughout the school year.

Factors determining the district calendar include state mandates, a county-wide common calendar, community needs, professional development obligations, and days decided through negotiations
between the Board of Education and the Dearborn Federation of Teachers, Mustonen said.
