HEIGHTS — A Dearborn man died Jan. 4 after being involved in a car crash Jan. 3 on Ford Road at Silvery Lane that left several in the hospital.

Traffic Division Cpl. Leonard Stewart said 72-year-old Julian Szczotka, driving a Kia east on Ford, made a left turn and crashed into a 21-year-old Dearborn Heights woman’s Chevrolet Trailblazer after she ran a red light, heading west.

Szczotka died the next day, hours after the 4:30 p.m. crash.

The Trailblazer then hit nearby street signs that hit a portion of the Real Estate One building, 25000 Ford Road.Stewart said both the drivers and Szczotka’s wife, 73-year-old Janet Szczotka, also his passenger, were taken to Oakwood Hospital and Medical Center in Dearborn.

Szczotka’s wife and the Dearborn Heights woman were released from the hospital; police are not releasing the Dearborn Heights woman’s name because of potential charges. The Dearborn Heights woman’s passenger was not admitted to the hospital, Stewart said.

“She could face charges,” Stewart said of the Dearborn Heights woman. “(The case) will be sent to the prosecutor’s office for review. She has been cooperative so far.”

Stewart said the cause of death has not been confirmed by the Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office.
