Area chamber offers family fun

HEIGHTS — As part of National Night Out, the Dearborn Area Chamber of Commerce and Dearborn Heights Police Department will present Family Fun Day, an alternative to crime and drugs wrapped up in a summer event, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 7.

Families can visit more than 40 chamber member businesses from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and collect tickets that can be used to redeem prizes. Businesses will include restaurants, eye care, dental care, retail locations, accounting services, apartments, schools and churches. Most businesses will host their own activities such as clowns, face painting, and free drawings in addition to drawings, games, discounted food and dessert samples.

Families will begin the day at Midway Sports & Entertainment, 22381 Van Born, and receive a map directing them to all participating businesses.

The day will conclude at Van Houten Spray Park in Lyle C. Van Houten Park on Silvery Lane, where from 4 to 8 p.m. bouncy inflatables, clowns, the Target Fun Tent and entertainment will be featured. Concessions will be available for purchase. A family movie hosted by Park It will be shown beginning at 8 p.m.

Admission to Family Fun Day is $10 per family. Each family member will receive a free game of bowling and shoe rental at Cherry Hill Lanes; a free game of miniature golf at Midway Sports & Entertainment; and a hot dog, chips, ice cream and water at Van Houten Park during the event.
