Folk artist and designer Sandra Somers has joined the Dearborn Symphony Home Tour Friends committee this year offering her home design suggestions to home owners opening their homes for the walk through on May 19 for the 31st Home Tour taking place at Springwells Park, better known as the Ford Foundation.

Somers has long been known in Dearborn, having sold her artworks to area residents for some 30 years.

She met two home owners in the Foundation and was well received with her spacing suggestions in both arrangement of furniture, color and design. She suggested moving the owners’ glass-top table and iron chairs to the middle of the porch, creating a direct view from their large dining room.

The homeowner agreed and quickly changed the furniture.

Home Tour participants can find other ideas for their own home in both period and modern furnishings as they move from home to home on the tour.

Home design ideas also will be available at the 9 a.m. coffee and preview inside the Tournament Players Club of Michigan, headquarters for this year’s Home Tour. Preview tickets for coffee, Danish and talks are $10. Home Tour tickets also are available at $15 pre-sale and $20 the day of the tour. Call the Dearborn Symphony office at 313-565-2424 for tickets
