Charity hockey game pits firefighters against teachers

DEARBORN — In an effort to raise funds for the Dearborn Firefighters Burn Drive and the Dearborn Education Foundation, firefighters and teachers will square-off in a charity hockey game at 7 p.m. Oct. 15 in the University of Michigan-Dearborn Fieldhouse, 4901 Evergreen.

The event is free and all donations collected at the door will be split between the Firefighters Burn Drive and the Education Foundation.

The game will close out Fire Safety Week. Guest singer Karen Newman will start the game with the singing of the national anthem.

The Fire Department also will hold an open house at Fire Station 2, 19800 W. Outer Drive, from noon to 2 p.m. The event includes free hot dogs, a medical helicopter landing, face painting, hands-on fire truck display, spraying the fire hose, trying on fire gear, and other family fun.

The Dearborn Education Foundation is a 501c3 non-profit organization that helps enhance the education that students receive from the Dearborn Public Schools through grants to fund technology, equipment and innovative programs not funded by the school district’s budget. Over the years the foundation has awarded over $1,300,000 in teacher grants.
