MELVINDALE — Resident Freddie Lee Smith, 52, was found guilty of robbery and assault with intent to cause great bodily harm in a jury trial Wednesday.
Officials said the sentence is expected to put him behind bars for 35 years.
Smith had stabbed a clerk with a knife and stolen about $160 and a bottle of liquor from Vineyards Liquor, 24692 Outer Drive, about 2:30 p.m. April 18 when a customer walked in on the robbery.
Smith then fled on bike to his house on Roger. The suspect turned himself in to detectives after being reached by his sister.
