Workshops offer Assistance and Resources to Caregivers

The Senior Alliance will host Caregiver Conferences in Wayne County through May 10.

Conferences will be held from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the Redford Community Center, 12121 Hemingway; noon to 3:30 p.m. at River Rouge High School, 1460 Coolidge Highway; noon to 3:30 p.m. at the Flat Rock Community Center, 1 Maguire St.; and 5:30 to 9 p.m. at Summit on the Park, 46000 Summit Parkway in Canton.

Admission is free, but those interested in attending must register by calling (734) 246-2280, Ext. 156, or going to Caregivers and their adult care recipients are welcome to attend.

Each event will feature informational displays, workshops, giveaways and a variety of professionals to help caregivers find the information and resources they need. Free health screenings will also be provided two hours before the start of each conference.

Service professionals will discuss a variety of topics, including self-care for the caregiver, Alzheimer’s/Dementia disease progression, veteran’s benefits, care options from home to hospice and legal issues.

In addition, information on home health care and residence options, in-home help, adult day care, prescription assistance, handling stress and respite programs will be available. Free refreshments and door prizes will also be provided.

The conferences are a collaborative between Wayne Metropolitan Community Action Agency, Adult Well-Being Services and Neighborhood Legal Services of Michigan. The conferences are also being sponsored by AARP and American House.
