Richard Barnes of Outer Drive Kiwanis Club named Inter-Service Club Council Member of Year

DEARBORN, Mich. – The Inter-Service Club Council of Dearborn recently honored members of their individual organizations who represent exemplary commitment to their group and the community.

Of those outstanding members who volunteer so much time and effort, one was chosen as the 2009 Serviceperson of the Year by the Inter-Service Club Council of Dearborn: Richard Barnes.

The Inter-Service Club Council, which meets to share ideas for fundraising and event participation among the different charitable organizations, announced the honor at the Council’s 48th awards luncheon held on Wednesday, Nov. 11 at the Dearborn Country Club.

Barnes is a charter member of the Outer Drive Kiwanis Club and has maintained perfect attendance for more than 50 years. Over that time he has held the offices of president, vice president, president-elect and treasurer. He has been serving as the club’s secretary for 27 years.

Over his many years of service, Barnes has chaired club committees on: Community Service, Youth Services, Sponsored Youth, Public Relations and Membership, among others. He has been named Kiwanian of the Year on four different occasions and was given the George F. Hixson Award, which is the Kiwanis highest honor.
