Dinner to benefit young cancer victim

TAYLOR — A benefit dinner for Dominick Keck and St. Jude Hospital is scheduled for 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Taylor Moose Lodge, 9981 Telegraph Road.

Mostaccioli dinners will be served, including salad, bread and dessert. There will be a cash bar, raffles and entertainment. The minimum donation is $8.

Four-year-old Dominick has been diagnosed with a brain tumor. He is one of four grandchildren of Realtor Larry Keck, the son of Larry Jr. and Crystal and the sister of Destiny. Larry Sr. has operated Keck Real Estate for 35 years.

Dominick traveled with his parents and sister to St. Jude Hospital in Tennessee to begin treatment. Because of what they call his great attitude, Dom has been nicknamed “The Dominator” by his friends and doctors.

After seven weeks of radiation, the family returned home for a three-week reprieve. The Kecks will return to St. Jude Oct. 18 for a four-month stretch of aggressive chemotherapy treatments.

“St. Jude has graciously opened their doors and hearts to Dominick and the Keck family,” said Rhonda Linden, who is planning the fundraiser with fellow Keck agent Tom Long. “The family has been given free housing, transportation, food and medical.”

Proceeds from the benefit will help assist the family and be donated to St. Jude Hospital in the name of Dominick Keck.

“St. Jude Hospital and the Keck family hope you never have a family member in need of St. Jude’s services,” Linden said. “But just in case you ever should, please attend this benefit and donate to this cause.

“The support you can offer will enable other families in need of help from St. Jude Hospital the ability to concentrate on making those they love well again, instead of having to waste precious time worrying about how to afford treatments.”

The Taylor Moose has donated its facility. Organizers of the dinner are looking for contributions of food and auction/raffle prizes, including gift certificates from local merchants. Items can be dropped off at Keck Real Estate, 23536 Goddard Road, during normal business hours; pickups can be arranged with a telephone call.
