Q: What is the lovely Ming-Na doing lately? I really liked her on “ER,” and my daughter absolutely loved her in “Mulan.” — Wendi H., Akron, Ohio

A: I recently spoke with Ming-Na, who is promoting her new SyFy show, “Stargate Universe,” which also stars Robert Carlyle and Lou Diamond Phillips. When asked what sets this “Stargate” apart from its predecessors (“Atlantis” and “SG-1”), Ming-Na explains: “There’s a whole different feel and vibe to the show. It’s more character driven and more — I don’t want to say darker, because it isn’t; there’s a lot of bright scenes — but it definitely has a more serious tone.” You can catch “Stargate Universe” on the SyFy network on Friday nights, with repeats throughout the week.      Q: I remember an old-ish movie that starred Michael Douglas, where his character gets called to serve in Vietnam, but he doesn’t want to go and considers fleeing to Canada. What was it called, and is it available to purchase? — Gerry N., Portland, Maine

A: You’re in luck. The movie you’re thinking of is “Summertree,” which premiered in 1972, at the height of the United States’ controversial involvement in the Vietnam War. It recently was released on DVD and is available for purchase. “Summertree” co-stars Jack Warden, Barbara Bel Geddes, Rob Reiner and Brenda Vaccaro. Kirk Douglas bought the rights to the off-Broadway play of the same name by Ron Cowen on which the film was based. It was a gift to his son after Michael was fired from the stage production.

Q: I heard that “The View” co-host Sherri Shepherd is getting her own sitcom. If so, what’s it about, and is there any chance she could get any of her “View” co-hosts to guest star on the show? — Stephanie Z., via e-mail

A: Lifetime Television began airing “Sherri” on Tuesday nights in early October, and the show follows the story of a working mother and part-time entertainer (Sherri) trying to pick up the pieces of her life when she splits from her cheating husband. As for having her “View” co-hosts on, Sherri tells me: “I would love to! Maybe I could get Whoopi, because she is still acting. But Joy is not interested in acting, Barbara doesn’t do that sort of thing, and Elizabeth keeps getting pregnant — so, it doesn’t look like it will happen for the three of them. But I’ll work on Whoopi.”

Q: Is Jamie Lee Curtis’ husband a member of the Royal Family of England? How long have they been married? — H.F. in Alabama

A: Christopher Guest, Jamie’s husband of 25 years, is the 5th Baron Haden-Guest in the House of Lords. He inherited his title from his father, Peter Haden-Guest, who passed away in 1996. As a Lord, he has no actual governing rights since the passing of the House of Lords Act 1999, which removed rights of those who inherited their seats.
