Dearborn Rotary Club Inducts New Club President

DEARBORN – The Rotary Club of Dearborn has inducted Bob Ziolkowski as the new president for the 2009-2010 Rotary Year. Ziolkowski follows Dearborn Rotarian Valerie Murphy-Goodrich, 2008-09 president, and becomes one of 33,000 Rotarians worldwide serving as a Rotary president this year.

“I am proud to be part of a world-wide organization dedicated to service and values,” said Ziolkowski, who will coordinate the activities and projects of the club. “Since 1923, our club has worked locally and globally to provide humanitarian service, to encourage high ethical standards, and to build peace and goodwill.”

Ziolkowski shared several of the club’s project goals for the upcoming Rotary year which include participating in the Goodfellows paper sale, making lunches for the Salvation Army, awarding 20 college scholarships to high school seniors in Dearborn, dedicating a new observation deck at Kingfisher Bluff on the Henry Ford Community College campus, ongoing fundraising for a Care and Comfort room at Oakwood Hospital, collecting phone cards for U.S. service personnel in VA hospitals, providing classroom equipment for an orphanage in Brazil, and taking pictures of children and families with Santa at the annual Wayne County Holiday Lightfest.

“Rotary’s motto is ‘service above self,” Ziolkowski said. “As local leaders and volunteers, Rotarians are committed to improving our local and global communities through this year’s theme which is ‘The Future of Rotary is in your Hands’.”

Serving with Ziolkowski for the 2009-10 Rotary year are Margaret Blohm, president-elect 2010-11; John Artis, president-nominee 2011-12; Murphy-Goodrich, past president 2008-09; Jack Mueller, secretary; Roger Miller, president and board directors Amy Bazzy, Rick Goward, Maureen Guevara, Hassen Hammoud, Marsha Koet, Aldo Martin, Kerrie Petersen, and Merritt Robertson.

The Rotary Club of Dearborn is one of 51 clubs in Rotary International District 6400 which serves Wayne, Monroe and Lenawee counties in Michigan and Essex County in Ontario. This year’s District 6400 governor is Neil McBeth, a member of the Rotary Club of Essex, Ontario.
