Car theft thwarted, thieves escape

Police leaving a call late Monday to Southgate Mobile Home Park, 12060 Dix, noticed two men sitting in a 1992 Buick on the east side of the street who saw them, got out, left the car’s lights on and acted as if they were going inside Shotmakers, 12045 Dix.

They became suspicious as the men looked back at the car and continued walking east into the alley and then south through a back yard in the 13900 block of Brest. Police tried to pursue but lost sight of them at that point.

The car’s ignition had been damaged, and pry marks were found on the passenger’s-side door. The car then was returned to its owner.

One man was described as black, about 6 feet tall and wearing an orange shirt and a baseball cap; the other was white and wore a dark blue T-shirt and dark-colored shorts. Both are described as between 18 and 25 years old.
