Woman’s pocket picked


A woman’s checkbook was stolen out of her purse at 10 p.m. March 8 while she was shopping at Meijer, 3565 Fairlane.


She was in the frozen food section when another woman began to talk to her. When she walked to the ice cream section, the woman followed her, pushed her cart out of the way and picked out some ice cream. She said she thought it was odd that the woman pushed her, but thought nothing of it until she was at the store checkout and realized her checkbook was gone.


Rock breaks window


The back window of a 2002 Ford Focus was broken when the owner was working at Baskin Robbins, 7205 Allen, sometime between 5 and 10 p.m. March 3.
Upon discovering the damage she found a large rock inside her car. The window will cost $200 to replace.


Video games taken from car


A 2008 Ford Edge was broken into sometime between 9 p.m. March 12 and 8 a.m. March 13 while it was parked in front of the owner’s apartment in the 13000 block of Sibley.


Five video games, an MP3 player, a gold necklace and $60 cash were taken from the car.


The owner said the car was locked; there was no damage to the doors or windows.


Door frame broken


Someone tried to break into an apartment in the 19000 block of Fort sometime between 8 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. last Sunday.


The owner came home to discover his front door kicked or pushed in. The wooden door jamb was broken, but the deadbolt lock prevented entry.




Window smashed


The rear window of a 2007 Jeep Liberty was broken out sometime between midnight and 7 a.m. March 13 while it was parked in the owner’s driveway in the 2500 block of Marian.


Screens slashed


The window screens on the east side of Anderson Elementary School, 2600 Harrison, were slashed sometime before 1:30 p.m. last Sunday.


Bicycle tire tracks were visible in the frozen grass alongside the building.


Bottles purloined from porch


Pop bottles were stolen from a screened-in porch sometime between 7 a.m and 4 p.m. in the 3200 block of Patton.


The screen window was cut and the glass door to the porch was unlocked. No entry was gained into the house.




Attempt on garage abandoned


A 78-year-old resident of the 700 block of Eureka found pry marks on her garage door Monday morning.
No entry was made into the garage, but the trim around the garage is damaged. Repairs will cost $200.


Shoplifters flees in cab


A man caught shoplifting at Rite Aid, 1998 Biddle, fled the scene in a cab before employees could stop him at 4 p.m. March 13.


He dropped off a prescription at the store and then was seen running to the bathroom. He attempted to leave the store when the theft detector alarm sounded.


Employees stopped him and he removed three bottles of cologne from his pockets. Before employees could detain him, he got into a waiting cab.


Money stolen from elderly woman


An 81-year-old woman discovered $7,000 stolen from her purse at 3 p.m. March 14.


The money was there at the beginning of the month, and when she checked again it was gone. She said several representatives of companies have been in her house since she last saw the money.
