Jill Jackson’s Hollywood March 8th

JILL JACKSON’S HOLLYWOOD
By Jill Jackson

HOLLYWOOD … Jennifer Aniston and Jason Bateman are teaming in a comedy titled “The Baster.” And get this for a plot. They play best friends Wally and Kassie. When Wally learns that Kassie plans to become pregnant through artificial insemination, he replaces the donor’s sperm with his own. Then he must live with the secret that the children are his. The film shoots in New York in the spring. Ho boy! This artificial insemination is sure getting a big play these days.

Timothy Hutton’s next will be Roman Polanski’s “Ghost Train.” This about a ghostwriter (to be played by Ewan McGregor) who is hired to complete the memoirs of a former British prime minister (Pierce Brosnan). When the writer uncovers secrets, his life becomes in jeopardy. Hutton plays the prime minister’s American lawyer.

Surely it’s no more “little Dakota Fanning.” Appearing on the Late Show, the former child actress looked every bit the grown-up sex-pot. Now 15, she looked sophisticated in “a little nothing” black dress showing lots of long, lovely legs and beautiful white shoulders. Her long, blond hair looked as if it had just been pressed with an iron, and her conversation was quite sophisticated. AND as I said no more “little” Dakota Fanning. But lest your yearn for that child actress, her younger sister is about to take that place.

Two of the biggest names in the business are talking to team in Robert Ludlum’s “The Matarese Circle.” Tom Cruise will play the Russian spy Vasili Taleniekov, the mortal enemy of intelligence operative Brandon Scofield, played by Denzel Washington. Cruise is a busy man. Besides this, he is developing several other projects. Add to that his time with Katy and Suri and his other kids with Nicole. One wonders how he manages to breathe. But breathe he does with that great, big, white toothy smile.

Looking back at a Late Show, I’m wondering if many of you saw Joaquin Phoenix? It was weird. He was wearing a dark suit, dark glasses and what looked like a big dark wig. He just sat there, never answering a question. Finally David Letterman thanked him and he was off. Without a word. Darnedest thing I’ve ever seen.

Fans have been yenning for Cybill Shepherd, and now it looks like they will get their “yenning.” She’s set to co-star in a comedy pilot titled “Alligator Point.” This about an eccentric group of Floridians who hang out in Mae’s Oyster Bar. Cybill plays Mae. This bodes to be much fun, especially if the customers down a lot of raw oysters fresh off the half shell. (Ever tried it?)

Aside to Ryan R. of West Hollywood, Calif. Yes, that was Gloria Henry you saw shopping at Gelson’s Grocery in West Hollywood. Of course, you remember her as the mom on the “Dennis the Menace” TV show, which is still in reruns. And Glo, as her friends call her, is still quite active in many charities and a docent at the Los Angeles Zoo. In real life she is Mrs. Craig Ellwood, mother of three: Geoffrey, Erin and Adam. And yes, she and Jay North (Dennis) keep in touch.

BITS ’N’ PIECES: Alec Baldwin still talking about the fun he had as honorary chairman of the 2009 Spirit Awards. It all happened on the beach at Santa Monica, that little town on the Pacific. … And once again at this writing, not a peep out of Paris, Britney or Lindsay. And again I say “Hallelujah!” — no choppers buzzing about above my digs.
